PLAN DATE: SUN / DEC. 9
Get your eating pants on because tonight we are taking you on a culinary journey and you’re not going to want to hold back. Start the evening at Boqueria, a lively Barcelona-style tapas bar, inspired by the buzzy atmosphere and authentic food of the “Kioskos” (kiosks) that surround the famous food market El Mercado de la Boqueria in Spain. With vegetable, seafood, and meat tapas there is something for any and all dietary preferences. Order a few tapas dishes to share like the Coca De Setas (grilled flatbread with porcini purée, Idiazábal cheese, and caramelized onions) or the Gambas Al Ajillo with (shrimp, garlic, brandy, and Guindilla pepper in olive oil). But don’t let your appetite get the best of you just yet, because you’re going to want to save room for the next stop of the evening.
Walk around the corner to the historic Limelight Church where Jue Lan Club has taken over to offer an upscale twist on Chinese food and cocktails. The restaurant’s name was inspired by a Chinese painter who organized a secret group, the Jue Lan Society, of like-minded artists sharing a distaste of conventionality and a devotion to the extravagant and over the top lifestyle. When you walk into the space, you’ll immediately see the large influence its history has had with different types of art adorning the walls, bathrooms, bar, and restaurant area. Immerse yourselves in their culture as you sip on cocktails like the Hennessy Sidecar with Hennessy Cognac, triple sec, fresh lime juice and a sugar rim. For an out of this world experience opt for the $75 slow cook Peking duck with housemade pancakes. Other standout items include the Miso Glazed Salmon with sauteed eggplant, the Kung Pao Chicken with peanuts, and spicy Szechuan sauce, and the vegetable lettuce wraps.
