PLAN DATE: FRI / APR. 13
We have mad respect for fine dining that lives up to the hype, and Carbone does all that and more. You’ll feel straight out of Goodfellas in this old school Italian restaurant where the waiters are outfitted with burgundy jackets and bowties, and dinner is a theatre experience as much as it is a meal. Here, bigger is better: from the overflowing bread basket, to the two-and-a-half pound lobster diavolo, to the complimentary extras–like charcuterie, cheeses, and limoncellos–served with a grand flourish.
Next, stash your doggy bags and check out Cafe Wha?, a Village gem that gets the honor of giving Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and other greats their start. Today, the live music still happens nightly, and everything from R&B, to classic rock, to funk is fair game.
Dinner, Live Music
A Little Pricey
181 Thompson Street, Manhattan
idk tip: Make sure to make a reservation far in advance. A table at Carbone is a coveted one, and it is nearly impossible to be seated without a reservation.
115 MacDougal Street, Manhattan
idk tip: As is standard jazz club policy, this one also has a cover charge and two-drink minimum. This spot also has light bites and desserts if you two are still munching.
