PLAN DATE: SUN / JAN. 13
On first glance, Der Pioneer might look like your classic trendy cafe—dark wood, white walls, clean lines. But it’s risen to the top for a reason. Headed by a European pastry chef and restaurateur from California, their brunch features delicious, healthy dishes and excellent European pastries. Everything seems to come with a mountain of colorful vegetables and executed with an eye for aesthetics. With coffee and cold brew using beans from Brooklyn Roasting Company, you can enjoy a truly good cup of jo before tucking into your Lemon Ricotta Pancakes or Almond croissant. With Stollen to buy in the winter and a backyard space for Summer, this is a must-go year round.
Then, take a stroll around Prospect Park or dive right into the day drinking (hey, we’ve all been there!) next door at the Hinterlands Bar. With botanical wallpaper, a bright turquoise accent wall, and an outdoor patio, this is another millennial trap worth visiting. Sidle up to the bar and order a Bloody Mary or one of 12 beers and ciders on tap as you take in the funky decor. This place can get lively with board game nights and Drag Race viewing parties, but during the day (it opens at 1 pm, prime day drinking hours), it’ll be chill and relaxed with great service from the friendly bartenders.

idk tip: The cafe has limited seating, but it’s worth waiting for a spot to sit and look into the kitchen—the chefs work behind a glass wall.

idk tip: When the post-drinks munchies hit, order the pigs in a blanket. Seriously—it’s not regressing, it’s nostalgia!
