Gold Star Beer Counter in Prospect Heights is the place to be for beer-lovers with 16 rotating beer taps and above-average bar food (the charcuterie sandwich with soppressata, coppa, gouda, half dried tomato, pesto & balsamic sounds especially appetizing for just $9). You don’t even have to step inside if you don’t feel like it — poke your head into their to-go window to fill up a growler. The record player spinning in the corner adds to the over-all chill vibe.
We don’t know if it was the beer on tap or something in the charcuterie plate, but Jessica and Kitfox were in rare form when they recorded the below review. Take a listen.

Our bartender was helpful in pairing two complementary meats with the buffalo cheese we selected.

The record player spinnin’ tunes was a fun touch to the atmosphere! We somehow got on the subject of modern day peasantry, which was superficially hilarious that this subject matter came up, but wound up being much more philosophical in nature.
Be open to tasting a kind of beer you wouldn’t typically go for…if you don’t dig it, there’s 15 other options on tap and you’re bound to love one of them! Also, check out the bookshelves across from the bar full of bottled craft beers with artistically intriguing labels…I’m a sucker for a cool bottle label.
Between the rotating taps and window growler service, I’ll definitely be back for more beer!

Great atmosphere and I very much enjoyed their turntable setup. A nice environment to converse with friends.
Activity levels are a little slow in there earlier evening on a Sunday, but pick up into the night. Choose your arrival time based on your preference.
I will definitely be going back.
