PLAN DATE: TUES / JULY 16
Tonight, start things off with some jazz and cocktails at Velvet. This swanky Williamsburg lounge is draped head-to-toe in brick and velvet, and the inclusion of live jazz creates a perfect cocktail for a fearlessly romantic night on the town (and that’s before you even check out the actual cocktail bar). We recommend ordering their namesake drink—the scotch-based Velvet Martini—before getting cozy on a velvet sofa in their intimate lounge and enjoying some of the city’s best jazz musicians. The $10 ticket gets you a free drink, and the music lasts between 8 and 11 p.m. Check all of their weekly and monthly events here.
Once you’ve had your fix of live music, take a stroll over to Marlow & Sons for some New American grub. Though the tone here is significantly more laid back than Velvet, we think you’ll appreciate the contrasting vibes. Marlow & Sons rock a very rustic, country-esque atmosphere, which perfectly complements their farm-fresh menu. What’s more is that the food here is updated daily, so you’re sure to be in for an unexpected treat.
Jazz Night at Velvet
174 Broadway, Brooklyn
idk tip: One of their highlight bar selections aren’t drinks at all, but cigars. So, if you’re in the mood for a stogie, they offer everything from Dominican/Cuban Hemingway Dark’s to Nicaraguan Sungrown’s.
Marlow & Sons
81 Broadway, Brooklyn
idk tip: Don’t let the grocery store front fool you. Though it is true they do double as a sort of hipster bodega, you’ll find that the space in the back is actually a fully-functioning restaurant.
