PLAN DATE: TUES / SEPT. 17
Start the night off with drinks at L’Accolade, a natural wine bar and bistro. Highlighted by seasonal eclectic cuisine from Cafe Boulud and Aquavit alums, Clement Lapeyssonnie’s wine list features small winemakers from around the world, along with some perennial favorites. The idea is to introduce little known or unusual wines to guests, and you can sample them for $10 a glass during happy hour, every day 4 – 7 p.m.; they’re also reasonably priced outside of those hours too. Settle in at the marble bar or in the small garden, try a new bottle, or glass (there are nearly a dozen on offer), or a seasonal cocktail with artisanal spirits designed by Felix Campos of Alta. If you’re feeling a bit hungry before dinner, the menu, developed to showcase the wines, offers several snacks and small plates, such as the Fluke crudo with charred strawberry, quinoa and fennel or warm lentil salad.
Save some room though for the Highlands gastropub’s Scottish-American fare. The relaxed elegance of the exposed brick and wood, twilight lights, fireplace and oversized paintings of the countryside give you a warm and snug feeling year round. There’s also a large bar upfront if you’d rather sidle up there for drinks and a bite. Not only can you experience award-winning fare prepared with artisanal Scottish imports and local farmer’s market finds, but they have an incredible selection of Scotch. Pour through an entire book of offerings sectioned by region, and described by nose, palate and finish. If making a decision is a bit overwhelming or if you’re looking for something new, the incredibly educated and helpful staff can provide a quality recommendation.
