PLAN DATE: THURS / MAY 23
When you walk into Mayahuel Mariposa, you’ll immediately feel 10x sexier. Maybe it’s the dimly lit interior or the fumes of mezcal permeating through the air. Either way, it’s the perfect little date night spot. They have a large selection of tequilas and mezcals, as well as impressively concocted cocktails. The food gets 5 stars, too—especially the ceviche which comes marinated in mezcal and served over plantains! We also love the Chammorro De Borego (braised grass-fed lamb shank in costeno tomatillo sauce and wild plum, served with rice and black beans).
Next stop, The Wayland, where the crowd is lively and the drinks are strong. The bar has a pretty iconic exterior, sitting on the corner of 9th and Avenue C—if you’re a fan of God Friended Me, you might recognize it, as they often film episodes inside the bar. The drinks here are phenomenal, especially the Smoked & Roasted which is Mezcal-based (sensing a theme for the night, here?), mixed with chipotle-infused agave and rimmed with chili salt. If you’re feeling extra bold and spicy, order the oyster shooters: beautiful blue island oyster on ice, with a side of pickle brine-infused mezcal and a side of sangrita spicy sauce.
Dinner, Lots of Mezcal

idk tip: Hop on a ‘flight to Mexico’ and order the tequila tasting which comes with a selection of three tequilas and a complimentary sangrita.
