The Sexiest NSFW Date Night Spots In New York

By: Rachel Clayton

New York City has something for everyone, which is part of why it’s such a popular place for tourists and families to visit. But something for everyone means everyone, including those of us that like to get debaucherous, wild and even a little freaky. You won’t find these places in your typical guidebook, but they are perfect for those nights you and your S.O. need to spice it up.

The Sexiest NSFW Date Night Spots In New York—Pt. I

The Midnight Show At The Slipper Room
167 Orchard Street, Manhattan

The Slipper Room is an iconic burlesque club on the Lower East Side with a variety of events, from classic burlesque to kinky comedy to movie nights. The best time to go, however, is The Midnight Show on Friday and Saturday. All the variety gets packed into at least two hours of the sexiest and weirdest things you can imagine. Some highlights might include a clown who lights fire to his genitals, aerial stripping, and a gimp-suited dancer doing unseemly things to a banana. The lush space has a coat room and bar but limited tables, so get there early and plan to stay late. And, if you want an idk approved date night featuring The Slipper Room, well, you’ve got one

Boobie Trap
308 Bleecker Street, Brooklyn

If the name didn’t tip you off, this is a bar with a bit of an attitude. From the outside, this corner bar might look like another hip dive bar, but when you enter you’ll be greeted by colorful string lights, mismatched bar stools, and a headless female mannequin turned beer tap. Yep. If you’re not looking to drink something dispensed from plastic, they have beer and a shot combos for under $8 and “Fancy A** Drinks” to get you vibing with the kitschy decor. They also have board games and encourage a sore loser—swearing at Sorry! is no problem here. We paired it with delish Vietnamese food when we featured it in our curated date night

JOYRIDE: A Sex-Positive Comedy and Variety Show
1150 2nd Avenue, Manhattan | Monthly Show | 9PM—10:30PM

The Pleasure Chest is a top-notch sex shop, balancing classy and sexy with red tiled walls, finished cabinets, and gleaming glass counters containing a multitude of pleasurable items. In addition to selling all kinds of things in a judgment-free zone and hosting informative workshops, they also host Joyride (this month on the 22nd). Make sure to BYOB and you and your partner will be laughing away at awkward sex tales and mishaps—and maybe getting some ideas.

Pumps
1089 Grand Street, Brooklyn

If you and your partner have ever ironically suggested going to a strip club, then it might be time to make good on that promise and visit Pumps, the closest thing to an ironic strip club. With an earned reputation as a “hipster strip club”, this space is both blue collar and decidedly unique, with the mirrored walls and neon lighting matched with mounted dirt bikes and Nascar models that dangle from the ceiling. The progressive ownership draws in award-winning dancers, performance artists, and burlesque artists. With Radiohead on the speaker and cheap beer at the bar, this place draws in less creepy old men and more millennial couples ready to make it rain.

Drag Brunch By Voss Events
431 West 16th Street, Manhattan

Brunch has always been a time to spill tea and swap scandalous tales, so why not let the best of the best do it for you? Voss Events hosts a Drag Brunch with performers and guests from RuPaul’s Drag Race who will keep you laughing and gasping with lip-syncing numbers, energetic dancing, and lots of crowd work (aka shade thrown). Meanwhile, in the spacious Highline Ballroom, the diligent waiters sling pitchers of mimosas to every table, making sure you’re never empty. These queens are as raunchy and foul-mouthed as you’d want, so don’t make this a meet-the-parents brunch unless your in-laws like to have their wigs snatched.

Paddles
250 West 26th Street, Manhattan

Self-described as the “friendly S&M club”, Paddles is a great starter dungeon to check out for the couple just dipping their toe into the waters of NYC’s debased basements. Set up in a labyrinth basement with all the supplies and fixtures for some adult fun, Paddles draws the line at actual sex acts but provides a safe and clean space to warm up for the main event. If you’re feeling nervous, you can grab refreshments at the Whips and Licks Cafe and just take it all in. Feeling more adventurous? The first 50 women to arrive every Friday receive a free paddle—your serve.

Switch N' Play
603 Vanderbilt Avenue, Brooklyn

Even within the boundary-pushing worlds of drag and burlesque, there are still boundaries to push. That’s where Switch N’ Play comes in, a queer collective dedicated to providing a show where performers of all genders and experience can lip sync, dance, and strip for your entertainment. Featuring a star-studded cast, the show kicks off every other week at the Branded Saloon, a honky-tonk style bar with charming decor and Southern food. Madame X
94 West Houston Street, Manhattan

This swanky lounge achieves a boudoir theme with velvet couches, dim lighting, and copious usage of bordello red. After giving your password to the bouncer, you’re free to explore the self-proclaimed sexiest bar in New York, enjoy a DJ playing a great mix of smooth beats, or mingle with the hip 20-something crowd that hears the call of this bar’s siren song. If you need a minute alone with your one and only, there’s always the back patio, kept cozy all year round with heat lamps. Bottles of wine can be expensive here, so consider enjoying an Indecent Proposal—the cocktail, that is, though this place may have your lover offering up a proposal as well.
