PLAN DATE: THURS / APR. 4
The first thing you’ll see at Ode To Babel is the plants in the front window. Once you’re inside, this stylish lounge bursts to life with expertly placed greenery, chairs, and sofas patterned in funky designs, and colorful art. The art is for sale, and the spot prides itself on showcasing all kinds of art, from paintings to live performances. Their cocktails live up to their theme of hip artistry, with well balanced and fresh ingredients—a sip of Wild Air, anyone?—along with a small rotating selection of beers and wines. They serve elevated bar foods, so you can munch on baked mac and cheese, plantain chips, or a fennel flatbread while you consider a neon portrait of Frida Kahlo.
When you’ve hit your limit of paying for cocktails, walk over to Doris for an equally-hip space with cheap drinks. This hang out spot is a converted apartment space, and keeps things comfortable with casual wooden-slatted booths, geometric art, and a large back patio. They have a lengthy beer selection ranging from only $5-7, though it can be hard to read in the candlelight. Once you’ve chosen your poison, there’s an elevated ping pong table in the back waiting for you to get way too competitive.
