Queens Night Market x Louis Armstrong House Museum

PLAN DATE: SAT / MAY 25

PLAN DETAILS:

Your first stop for the night pays homage to the King of Jazz, Louis Armstrong. As a New York City landmark, Louis Armstrong House Museum is exactly what it sounds like—it’s the original house Louis and his wife, Lucille settled into in Corona, Queens, in 1943, and lived in for the remainder of their lives. The house and its furnishings remain as they were during Louis and Lucille’s lifetime. The museum offers guided tours of the home, including audio clips from Louis’s homemade recordings—practicing his trumpet, enjoying a meal, or talking with his friends. The home also includes an exhibit on Louis’s life and legacy, and the Armstrongs’ beautiful Japanese-inspired garden. The museum is shown only through guided 40-minute historic house tours that start every hour on the hour (the last tour of the day starts at 4pm).

The Queens International Night Market has been welcoming happy crowds since 2015 and has become one of the more prominent events on the New York City food scene. It’s one of the biggest and best open-air night markets featuring 60 independent vendors selling merchandise, art, and food alongside a collection small-scale cultural performances that all celebrate the rich cultural diversity and heritage of NYC and Queens. With respect to food, most importantly, you can expect to see some newbies on the circuit, like Singaporean radish cakes, Egyptian meat pies, Brazilian chocolate truffles, and Austrian paprika chicken. As in previous years, most dishes will cost $5, with a few $6 exceptions. Market-goers will also be able to walk around with a beer in hand this year. Smorgasburg eat your heart out. Pun intended.
