PLAN DATE: FRI / NOV. 23
The traditional dinner theater experience has never been quite as unhinged as this one. In Shake & Bake: Love’s Labour’s Lost, you won’t just be witnessing actors outlandishly bringing to life a Shakespeare classic, but an eight-course dinner being constructed before your very eyes. The intimate, 360-degree setting lends itself to the actors having the chance to literally get in your face during the performance, while you indulge in everything from Cheeto dusted mac n cheese to smoky brisket tacos (veggie alts available). Tickets generally run between $75 and $200 (keep in mind that your money is going a long way), and showtimes run from 1pm to 9pm, so be sure to keep an eye on when your show kicks off.
After the multi-sensory experience that was that show, it’s time to wind down. To do so, arm-in-arm it down a few blocks to Johnny’s Bar and melt into one of their uniquely printed bar stools while you review your Shake & Bake take on Shakespeare over their specialty shots, like the Dirty Girl Scout or Little Green Man from Mars. With a mess of receipt art tacked to the wall and ceiling and so much graffiti that it covers the lightbulbs, this spot doesn’t think twice about owning its classic dive bar appeal.
