The Way Station

Reviewed by Holly x Josh in August 2017.

THE GIST

Dr. Who fans, meet your new favorite hangout. There’s an entire cocktail menu dedicated to the show. Holly & Josh went to The Way Station for one of their many events, the Astronomy on Tap Happy Hour where space-lovers are able to nerd out with astronomers and other special guests. Though they enjoyed the night overall, they weren’t terribly impressed with the drinks and event this time around. Listen more below.

Holly's Take

Drinks Rating: 7

I had the Brooklyn Mule to start and then followed it up with an Anderson Valley Briny Melon Gose. There is no food at The Way Station.

Service Rating: 9

The bartenders were really nice and quick at addressing responses. I would give them a 10, but at first, there were no menus out and I had to ask for them. The bartender noted that he almost always forgets to put the menus out, even though it is a cocktail bar.

Fun Factor: 8

The bar is definitely quirky and has a fun, nerdy component to it if you are into that. There is an entire section of the menu that is related to “Dr. Who” and one of the bathrooms is inside of a Tardis. We also went for an event, Astro on Tap, but there are numerous other events and live music performances that are held at the Way Station on a regular basis.

idk tip

Check out their event calendar before going; they have events regularly. They also have happy hour until 8pm!

Return Appearance?

I would maybe come back, but it is unlikely. The Way Station, at first glance, had some really interesting cocktails, but I was not impressed with the one that I ordered. Luckily, it is definitely affordable, so you don’t feel like you’ve shelled out a ton of money for a mediocre drink.

Josh's Take

Drinks Rating: 7

I had two beers, an IPA on tap which was ok, and the Briney Melon Gose from Anderson Valley Brewing that was excellent.

Service Rating: 9

The bartender was very friendly and quick while getting us our drinks.

Fun Factor: 8

It’s a nice small space, which seems like it could get crowded (which it did during the event we attended). On a regular night, however, I think it would be cozy rather than crowded. And it certainly has a good vibe for any Doctor Who fans out there.

idk tip

This is the home of Astronomy on Tap NYC, so if you’re looking for talks about the stars or other celestial matters, this would be a good place to keep an eye on.

Return Appearance?

I would probably come back for a drink.
