PLAN DATE: SAT / JAN. 6
Joe’s Pub is currently hosting the Under The Radar Festival — 12 days, 26 shows, 5 venues. In its 14th year, the festival aims to support artists from diverse backgrounds who are redefining the act of making theater — so far they’ve presented over 229 companies from 42 countries. Tonight, we recommend seeing Thunderstorm 2.0 at NYU Skirball. The show uses real-time video editing and sound mixing from action occurring on stage, and tells the explicit story of two female characters discovering that they have been cheated on by the same womanizing playboy. The show is performed in Chinese with English supertitles, and runs for just over an hour. Afterwards, members of the cast and creative team will take questions from the audience about the show and their process.
Next up: &Pizza, a “counter-culture pizza brand” where not only the pizza is creative, delicious and perfect for a low-key date night, but you’ll actually help support your community and neighborhood with every purchase. Right now all you have to do is suffer through one of their incredible Moonstruck pies (mushroom truffle, garlic ricotta, mozzarella, mushroom, grilled onion, goat cheese, fig balsamic), and they’ll donate a pizza to DC Central Kitchen, an organization that has prepared 25 million meals for low-income and at-risk residents in Washington, DC. That’s a feel-good date night.
