PLAN DATE: SUN / FEB. 10
Love is in the air, and retro is in vogue, which means, fashioning an old-fashioned love note from good old paper, scissors, and glue is the cool new (old) way to share your affection this Valentine’s Day. Put on by the Battery Park City Authority, this workshop brings kids of all ages together ahead of the heart-tastic holiday. Include your little ones—as long as they are over five—or indulge the child inside. True love comes in many forms—friends, family, significant others—and any one of your companions would be a great art partner for the afternoon. Materials are included.
Crafting can help work up an appetite so once you’re done giving Picasso a run for his money, grab a seat at Gee Whiz. A diner in the truest sense, Gee Whiz has all the greasy staples you expect, like onion rings and fried mozzarella, all-day breakfast favorites, and proper entrees. Given the delightful, no-frills vibe, you won’t feel shy stuffing your face here. Try the honey-dipped southern fried chicken for a bit of twist on a classic or get a steak for under $30—you’re worth it. If you’re in the mood for a burger, check out the specialty options—you can visit Greece, Cuba, Mexico, and California in your choice of toppings and substitute any patty for a veggie burger, salmon burger or chicken breast.
